"Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you"

About Us image
Ibiza Concordia Lodge No. 44 is a Freemasons Lodge operating within the Province of the Balearic Islands under Warrant from the Grand Lodge of Spain,
which maintains ties of friendship and recognition with all the regular Grand Lodges of the world.

Whilst the Lodge practices Emulation Ritual in English, it is made up of members of various nationalities, both permanent residents on the islands
and others who visit Ibiza regularly.

Ibiza Concordia Lodge was consecrated on November 10th, 2018 following the union of two pre-existing Lodges, Ibiza Lodge No. 44
(consecrated November 18th, 1989) and Concord Lodge No. 66 (consecrated on November 7th, 1992).

Ibiza Concordia Lodge is open to all those, who, whilst maintaining the utmost respect for individual beliefs, are concerned with moral and spiritual values,
self-improvement, and helping their communities with charitable endeavours.

If you require further information, or would like to participate in any of the meetings or other activities of our Lodge, do not hesitate to CONTACT US.

Discover Freemasonry
Freemasonry, in addition to being one of the oldest social and charitable organizations in the world, is an initiation institution that offers human beings a path for spiritual growth. Its roots lie in the traditions of the medieval stonemasons who built our cathedrals and castles, and it has been also influenced by various spiritual and esoteric movements over the centuries.

For Freemasons, there are four important values that help define their path through life: Integrity, Friendship, Respect and Charity. In today’s world filled with uncertainty, these principles ring as true as they have at any point in the organisation’s history.

Integrity: Building good people
Freemasons are focused on building themselves as people of integrity and membership provides the structure to help achieve that goal.

Friendship: Building together
Freemasonry provides the common foundation for friendships between members, many of which will last for life.

Respect: Building unity
Freemasonry brings people together irrespective of their political theory, race, religion or any other perceived differences that can divide us as a society.

Charity: Building compassion
Charity has always been a core principle of Freemasonry. Individuals can make an important contribution at local, national and global level by giving both their time and money.

Kindness and charitable giving are deeply ingrained within the principles of Freemasonry and the organisation provides the structure for members to make positive contributions to their communities and various causes.

Freemasonry and spirituality are deeply interconnected, though Freemasonry itself is not a religion. Instead, it is a fraternal organization that uses spiritual and philosophical symbolism to promote moral and personal development:

1. Spiritual Foundations of Freemasonry

Freemasonry is built on spiritual principles that encourage members to reflect on their place in the universe, their relationship with a higher power, and their moral obligations. Key aspects include:

  • Belief in a Supreme Being: Freemasonry requires its members to believe in a Supreme Being, often referred to as the Great Architect of the Universe (GAOTU). This belief is non-denominational, allowing individuals from various religious backgrounds to participate.
  • Symbolism: Masonic rituals and symbols (e.g., the square, compass, and apron) are imbued with spiritual meaning, encouraging members to contemplate deeper truths about life, morality, and the divine.
  • Moral Lessons: The degrees of Freemasonry (Entered Apprentice, Fellowcraft, and Master Mason) teach moral and ethical lessons through allegory and symbolism, often drawing from spiritual and philosophical traditions.

2. Freemasonry as a Path to Self-Improvement

Freemasonry indeed emphasizes a system of morality, self-improvement, and the cultivation of tenets and virtues, often conveyed through allegory and symbolism. The spiritual dimension of Freemasonry is deeply rooted in its focus on personal growth and the development of ethical principles:

  • Brotherly Love: This principle encourages Freemasons to treat others with kindness, compassion, and respect, fostering a sense of unity and mutual support among members and the broader community.
  • Relief: Freemasons are encouraged to provide assistance and support to those in need, whether through charitable acts, financial aid, or other forms of help. This virtue reflects the Masonic commitment to social responsibility and humanitarianism.
  • Truth: The pursuit of knowledge, wisdom, and understanding is central to Freemasonry. Members are encouraged to seek truth in all aspects of life and to live with integrity and honesty.
  • Faith: Freemasonry encourages its members to have faith in a higher power and to trust in the moral order of the universe. This faith is often expressed through a belief in a Supreme Being, though the specific nature of that belief is left to the individual.
  • Hope: This virtue represents optimism and the belief in a positive future. Freemasons are encouraged to maintain hope, even in difficult times, and to work towards a better world for themselves and others.
  • Charity: Charity in Freemasonry goes beyond mere financial giving; it encompasses a spirit of generosity, goodwill, and a willingness to help others without expecting anything in return. It is considered one of the greatest virtues a Mason can practice.
These principles collectively guide Freemasons in their journey of self-improvement and spiritual growth. By embodying these virtues, members strive to lead purposeful lives, contribute positively to society, and foster a sense of brotherhood and unity among all people. The allegorical and symbolic nature of Freemasonry serves as a tool to help members internalize these values and apply them in their daily lives.

3. Freemasonry and Religion

While Freemasonry is not a religion, it is compatible with many religious traditions. Members are free to practice their own faith while participating in Masonic activities. Key points include:

  • No Dogma: Freemasonry does not impose specific religious doctrines or interfere with members' personal beliefs.
  • Interfaith Harmony: Freemasonry brings together individuals from different religious backgrounds, fostering mutual respect and understanding.
  • Spiritual Reflection: The rituals and ceremonies of Freemasonry provide opportunities for members to reflect on their spiritual beliefs and the nature of the divine.

4. Symbolism and Spiritual Allegory

Freemasonry uses rich symbolism to convey spiritual and moral lessons. Some examples include:

  • The Great Architect of the Universe: Represents the divine creator and the order of the cosmos.
  • The Rough and Perfect Ashlars: Symbolize personal growth and the journey from imperfection to perfection.
  • The Pillars (Boaz and Jachin): Represent strength and stability, both in a physical and spiritual sense.
  • The All-Seeing Eye: Symbolizes the omnipresence of the divine and the importance of living a virtuous life.
These symbols encourage members to reflect on their spiritual journey and strive for higher ideals.

5. Freemasonry and the Search for Light

In Masonic tradition, Light is a central symbol of knowledge, wisdom, and spiritual enlightenment. The pursuit of "Light" is a recurring theme in Masonic rituals, representing the quest for truth, understanding, and a deeper connection with the divine. This spiritual pursuit is at the heart of Freemasonry.

6. Freemasonry and the Afterlife

Freemasonry does not prescribe specific beliefs about the afterlife, but its rituals and symbols often allude to themes of immortality and the eternal nature of the soul. For example:

  • The Legend of Hiram Abiff (central to the Master Mason degree) explores themes of resurrection and the triumph of good over evil.
  • The Masonic apron symbolizes purity and the hope of eternal life.
These elements encourage members to contemplate the spiritual dimensions of life and death.

7. Freemasonry as a Spiritual Journey

For many Freemasons, the Craft is a spiritual journey that complements their religious beliefs. It provides a framework for self-discovery, moral growth, and a deeper understanding of the divine.

While Freemasonry does not replace religion, it enhances spiritual life by encouraging reflection, brotherhood, and the pursuit of truth.Freemasonry’s spirituality lies in its emphasis on moral and ethical development, its use of symbolic allegory, and its encouragement of a belief in a higher power. It provides a space for individuals to explore their spiritual beliefs, connect with others on a similar journey, and strive for personal and collective improvement. While it is not a religion, it offers a profound spiritual dimension that resonates with many of its members.
Emulation Masonry refers to a specific style or ritual practiced within Freemasonry, particularly in the United Grand Lodge of England (UGLE) and lodges under its jurisdiction or in amity, as Grand Lodge of Spain (GLE). It is named after the Emulation Lodge of Improvement, which was established in 1823 to preserve and standardize Masonic ritual after the union of the two rival Grand Lodges in England in 1813 (the Antients and the Moderns).

Key Features of Emulation Masonry

  • Ritual Precision: Emulation Masonry is known for its emphasis on the precise and accurate delivery of Masonic rituals. The wording, gestures, and ceremonies are performed in a highly standardized manner, ensuring consistency across lodges.
  • Oral Tradition: Unlike some other Masonic systems, Emulation Masonry relies heavily on the oral transmission of rituals. Members are expected to memorize their parts, and the use of written scripts during ceremonies is discouraged. This practice helps preserve the traditional and symbolic nature of Freemasonry.
  • Lodge of Improvement: The Emulation Lodge of Improvement in London plays a central role in teaching and maintaining the Emulation ritual. It serves as a training ground for Freemasons to learn and perfect their ritual work.
  • Focus on Symbolism: Emulation Masonry places a strong emphasis on the symbolic and moral lessons of Freemasonry. The rituals are designed to convey profound philosophical and ethical teachings through allegory and symbolism.

Widely Practiced

Emulation is one of the most widely practiced forms of Masonic ritual in England and in lodges affiliated with the UGLE. It is also found in other parts of the world, particularly in countries influenced by English Freemasonry.

Structure of Emulation Rituals

The Emulation ritual covers the three Craft Degrees of Freemasonry:

  1. Entered Apprentice (First Degree)
  2. Fellowcraft (Second Degree)
  3. Master Mason (Third Degree)
Each degree has its own unique ceremonies, symbols, and lessons, which are delivered in a formal and structured manner. The rituals include

  • Opening and Closing the Lodge: Formal procedures to begin and end a Masonic meeting.
  • Degree Ceremonies: The initiation, passing, and raising of candidates.
  • Lectures and Charges: Moral and philosophical teachings delivered during the ceremonies.

Why Emulation Masonry?

Emulation Masonry is valued for its adherence to tradition, its focus on the symbolic and moral aspects of Freemasonry, and its role in maintaining the unity and consistency of Masonic practice. It appeals to those who appreciate the historical and ceremonial aspects of Freemasonry and who seek to deepen their understanding of its symbolical and spiritual teachings.
Becoming a Freemason
Membership is open to any man, free and of good report over the age of 21 irrespective of their political views, race or religion.

What happens at a Lodge meeting?
Lodge meetings are typically held in two parts. The first involves more administrative procedures, such as proposing and balloting for new members and receiving news about charitable fundraising. The second part focuses on ceremonies, such as the admittance of new members – a process made up of three degrees, each one marked by a special ceremony - or the installation of the Worshipful Master of the Lodge.

True to the sense of friendship and togetherness among Freemasons, meetings are also social events, providing an occasion for members to dine together. Outside of the Lodge, activities include community fundraising and volunteering activities, as well as a varied programme of events where spouses, partners and families are welcome.

How do I join?
If you don't know anyone who is a member and that you can talk to, then your first step is to check out our CONTACT US page and let us put you in touch with your local masonic area.

A Burns supper is a celebration of the life and poetry of the poet (and Freemason) Robert Burns (25 January 1759 – 21 July 1796), the author of many Scots poems. The suppers are normally held on or near the poet's birthday, 25 January. With good food, good cheer and good poetry; there’s no experience quite like a Burns Night celebration.
